Occupational Therapy 

Assessment and Intervention Services

Baby (0-18 months)   

  • Fine motor - grasp and release, pointing/poking, manipulation
  • Cognitive - object permanence, casuse and effect, interactions and responses
  • Exploratory play skills

Pre-school (18 months- 5years)

  • Table top fine motor skills - cutting, drawing, pencil grasp colouring in, name writing
  • Fine motor skills strength and coordination- grasp and release, in hand  manipulation, threading, hand dominance etc.
  • Self-care skills such as dressing, washing, eating
  • Motor planning and gross motor
  • Play Skills- Imaginative and symbolic play

Tools4School- School Readiness Group Programs (Small group based OT intervention for children preparing to start kindergarten in 2018)

Group based OT to develop specific skills to enable children to participate and succeed in classroom table-top work in 2018 as follows:-

  • Established hand dominance
  • Hand strength and coordination
  • Correct pencil grasp
  • Pencil control to draw and trace accurately
  • Independence with scissor skills- grasp and accurate cutting
  • Ability to write their name
  • Ability to form the pre-writing shapes- I -  O / \ X + ∆
  • Drawing and colouring-in skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and remain seated at the desk

Run in preschool/daycare settings within the eastern suburbs of Sydney and at Laugh and Learn Clovelly. Please get in touch with Renee to discuss your child’s needs and whether a group or individual therapy is indicated.

Kindy (5-7 years)

  • Pre-writing skills (age appropriate)
  • Letter formations
  • Table top fine motor skills - cutting, drawing, pencil grasp colouring in, name writing
  • Fine motor coordination and strength- in hand manipulation, grasp and grip strength,
  • Motor planning and coordination
  • Self  care- shoelaces, donning / doffing shoes and socks, zips and buttons

Primary School (7- 12 years)

  • Handwriting Assessment and intervention- ‘messy’ writing (spacing, sizing, formation etc.), incorrect formations, difficulties with spatial layout, slow writing speed
  • Organisation, attention and concentration-  assessment, strategies and support
  • Sensory Processing- assessment, education and support

High School (over 12 years)

  • Support with attentional difficulties
  • Handwriting Skills- assessment and intervention (to include one-off Handwriting Assessments for special provisions in high school)
  • Organisation, attention and concentration-  assessment, strategies and support
  • Sensory Processing- assessment, education and support
